It's what month you say?

Blue = Karis

So. It's September. For like four days now. Who knew, right?

This summer I thought it would be a good idea to branch out of my small circle of college, work, and crafting by working at a summer camp! Yes, it's true. For nearly three months I worked with children teaching them how to operate old looms and weave hand towels. So yes, I also learned how to weave and do maintenance on 50 year old looms. Even though my bank account did not get a boost this summer my resume certainly did.

Any who, since I was lost in the woods for so long it did put a small hiatus on our production of cute things.

But! Did you know Dea moved into a house? You know what that means. Craft room! Yes, my friends. The first day I got back from camp I set up shop in Deas old room and now KayDea Crafts has a work space! It's actually quite glorious. And look at all the toys we got done!

image
Dea and I have been trying to find creative ways with using our "texture" yarn since we've recently acquired a surplus of it. Monsters abound, my friends!

I myself like the squid in that turquoise. It's adorable!

After being away from life in the city for months I forgot how big our yarn stash was. I am now determined to make myself a formidable opponent by turning as many skeins as possible into toys! Ganbatte! And I still have a few weeks before I go off to university (so scary!) so lets see what we can do!

Farm Animal Amigurumis!

Dea

Is anyone else exhausted? Karis and I are working hard on finishing our time at community college and transferring to university! Excitement and change is in the air my friends.

Do you follow our Etsy Shop? If not you should! Cute doesn't need a reason.

We have recently put up a few new listings on trusty old Etsy. My favorite of which is our box farm animals.

so Indeed my friends! We had previously listed these guys in a whole box farm animal set! It included a mom and baby cow, chicken and pig. We decided to sell them just as pairs now. Aren't they adorable?

Remember to like us on facebook so you can hear even more of our witty banter and crazy craft adventures.

Munchi the new monster

Dea

It has been a while hasn't it guys! Karis and I help coach our local high school girls rugby team, and the season is now in full swing. Go Centaurs!

As far as crafting our time has been limited. After my surgery in March, everything went great, I decided to reread the Harry Potter series. In doing so I have rekindled my deep love for the series. Karis is back to being a full time student and working.

We have added a new addition to our shop today. A new Munchi the Monster!

He is kind of a sullen fellow. But perks right up when he sense adventure and love from a special someone!
Munchi is a knitted toy using double stranded wool. (Important to know, some people are allergic) To couple his sweet double stranded strengthness he has an awesome pocket. Perfect for keeping, snacks, pencils, teeth for the tooth fairy and many other things.

Munchi is a pattern Karis has perfected and boy is he cute! I am slowly falling in love with knitting and this pattern allows me to make a toy at the same time.

You can find Munchi for sale on our Etsy shop.
Pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

Mod Podge Anyone?

Dea

We are all familiar with Mod Podge correct? I found this nifty definition for it on Answer.com!

Definition: Mod Podge is a brand name for a decoupage medium. This word is used as a synonym for decoupage by some people. Some people also use it to describe any adhesive used for decoupaging.

Now I had to explain to my signifcant other that mod podge was actually a thing, not just an expression.
 Ex.
"That is just a mod podge of stuff!"

I have always been fascinated by mod podging. And by fascinated I guess I mean think it's freakin' amazing. So I thought I would try my hand at it.

Take on! The images are from the second comic in the series NYX. Now I found this comic at the Goodwill so I haven't been able to read the whole series. But the artist of the comic is Josh Middleton. I really enjoy his art style because of how light and whimsical it is.

Do you see those FAT wrinkles on the top images? Don't hate! It was my first try. But it did get better. Let me show you.

This worked out much better for me. Not perfect but I'm happy with it. The top of the box sports the front splash page of the comic and the sides capture the scene where the main character stops time and narrowly avoids a bullet in her direction. The inside is painted a lovely violent as well a a 'crystal' that makes the box sparkle.

I don't know about you guys but I'm really proud of myself. I need to finish the box as a whole with some kind of finish and it will be done. For sale? I'm not sure yet. Might keep it for myself. ;D

You remember the new artist Karis and I found to sell his perler bead creations? Here he is. He gave us a boat full of art. So Karis and I decided every one needs coasters.

Karis bought cork board and expertly cut out shapes to create a perfect backing to each piece. I used my most pro glue gun skill to place them perfectly and securely. They were glued with hot wax instead of super glue that can have some harmful chemicals in them.

Spring break is coming up you guys! You know what that means, Dea's second foot surgery, days of Netflix and crafting. Stick around to see what magic happens from our craftiness.

Want to see more? Here is out Etsy Shop and our Facebook page. See you later,

The magic of a boxy bag

Dea
Can I just say how shocked and delighted I was that our blog got 18 views two days in a row?
Thanks!
Also kind of sad in a weird way but lets focus on the positive.
We also reached 100 followers on Etsy. ;D

Have you guys been seeing the box bag fade that has been happening on Etsy? Zippered pouches that have a box like form. I was gifted one at christmas, purchased from the wonderful Etsy store, A needle runs through it
Her bags are perfectly crafted and always has such a selection of off beat fabrics. (Mine is a collage fabric of Wonder woman, Bat Girl and Super Girl. If you were wondering.)

Researching these bag I find that they are rated a two star level of difficulty for sewers. Two stars? I had to try my hand at it. No. I really had to. Karis was very insistent. So after looking at some very helpful tutorials my first box bag has come into existence!

OOOOHHHH. AAAAAAHHHHH. Your skills Dea! They are unmatched!
Why thank you. I do surely try.

I really enjoyed making it and am proud of the fact that it is upcycled. Karis and I buy scraps of materials at second hand stores, zippers when we can find them and take advantage of clearance rooms at local fabric stores. It was take one so it isn't perfect but it was a lot of fun. And it gives purpose to our busting fabric drawers. Who knows? Maybe they will start making an appearance in our Etsy shop.

Now Karis and I are sellers on Etsy, but we are also buyers. We wade through the sea of beaded jewelery and crocheted scarves to find the perfect gem to spend our minimum wage dollars on. And find a gem I did.
Yes Ma'am. That is a blue leopard print bow hair clip with Frankensteins face on it. It was a set of two, the second bow was purple leopard print with the Bride of Frankenstein on it. Karis must have worn it to class.
: /

These lovely bows are made by Dylan! Her Etsy profile astutely points out that she likes to make stuff.
Find her shop Here! Super fast shipping and off beat products. One of these days I will get my ears double pierced so I can wear ear rings again. Then I will wear one of her sweet sets.

I think that is all for me ladies and germs! Remember to like KayDea Crafts on Facebook and check out our bodacious Etsy shop.

Catch you later alligator!

Life of a Cripple

Dea

If you read our last post then you know that I had foot surgery. Nothing serious I just had one of my bunions corrected.
It has been three weeks since my surgery and I'm not going to lie it was rough. Hopping to the bathroom, crawling up stairs and begging people to get me food from the kitchen was not very becoming.

But my support system was amazing and did everything right to make sure my ass (and foot) were on it's way to recovery. I am now walking all by myself! The adventure is not over however. Mark your calendars ladies and gentlemen, March 21 I am getting my right foot done.

But you didn't come here to read about me, you came here to read about the adorable crafts that Karis and I bless the world with. And provide you I shall.

Since I have had such an extensive amount of time to myself I've been working on our Etsy Shop. Thanks to faith, trust, and a little bit of pixie dust our views are up! Sales aren't where we would like them to be but we are greedy that way.

Have you seen what we put up there? No? Well they are freakn' adorable so let me show you.

Pokemon shirts! Size 4T for your adorable toddler that is in their baby Pokemon stage. Right now we have Horsea (featured and looking fierce) Cleffa, Dratini and Wooper. We also have a Hoppip shirt in grown up size!

We also found a new local artist to con into letting us sell their goods. (By found I mean he is Karis' boyfriends brother) He does Perler Bead art is makes super sweet Mario characters that we made into magnets.

Look at that. How cool is that? If you bought these you would have the coolest refrigerator on the block, for sure. Buy Me.

Alright my friends! I think I have jibber jabbered for long enough. Remember to like us on Facebook, visit our Etsy shop and if your compassion and pity compels you, purchase something.

I'll catch you cats on the flip side!

Cute is as Cute does

Blue = Karis

So. We all know the next big holiday is Valentines day, and it's approaching fast. But what to get? Don't want to fall into the heart box of chocolates rut again. Need something cute. Adorable.

I can help you with that.

Say hello to the Jellyfish couple! They come with cute little hairpin bows and are so much in love it's ridiculous cute <3

You see. This past weekend was just one of those weekends where the planets aligned and the cosmos granted us with no major responsibilities. You know what that means. Craft weekend.

That's how these little guys came into being and they HAD to have bows. It seemed really important at the time. In love? Know the perfect person who would love to receive these guys? You're in luck. You can find them right here.

Dea and I popped out over ten toys this weekend, three pokemon shirts (which will be on etsy soon), and a weird mesh of sewing projects. Then again, it was a five day weekend.

Thanks for keeping an eye on our blog! Stay tuned, Dea's getting foot surgery so she'll be home for 3 whole weeks with only the internet to entertain her.

ER MER GERD

Purple - Dea

Christmas break is over and winter term has become! Due to low enrollment one of my classes was cancelled. (Sad face) I am only taking one class, that is online, this term. Then I shall have a college degree!
But that is not the purpose of this blog post.
No.
This post is to let you know that ER MER GERD. Dea has a sewing machine.

Yes I created an adorable baby blanket/Lapghan.
To clarify, no I didn't make up the word lapghan. It is a thing. It is a perfectly sized blanket to keep your lap warm. ;D

Some of the materials I upcycled (I didn't make up that word either) and others I had bought and waited to be inspired.

Lessons learned from this project : DON'T MIX YOUR FABRICS. If you look closely that green fabric is some kind of super soft son of a bitch fabric that is hard to sew with. And trying to sew it to a cotton fabric increases the difficulty. The squares don't really match up which leads me into the second lesson learned. Think about what you are doing Dea. I get so excited that I am doing something well that I just do things without thinking. Like cut my fabric before realizing I didn't add a quarter inch for sewing. I knew that, but was too excited. Ba hum bug.

Over all I think it's adorable. What's that you say? You think it's adorable too? What's that you say? You want to purchase it for the perfect price of 15 dollars? Why yes, that does sound like a good idea.
Buy Me.

I want you to look closely at this second project. Notice the lovely flowers, the strips of fabric, and sating binding used to create this beautiful lapghan.
I made that with my own two hands and powerful crafter-sewing machine bond with Betsy.

I'm really proud of this because I haven't really gone outside the realm of straight squares and I have never done binding before. This blanket is also made with 100 % upcycled material. *thumbs up*

Lessons learned from this project : Don't use satin binding. Unless it is absolutely necessary and you know that it is the perfect and only option for your project just don't bother. That bitch moves around, making the corners is not as easy as the lady shows it on Youtube and it isn't much fun. But it's so shiny, and soft and lovely. It brings out the yellow in the flowers. So I guess it was worth it.

Want to buy this lovely piece? You'll have to wait my friend. Just finished it 20 minutes ago and haven't put it on Etsy yet. But! If you message us on our Facebook maybe we could work out a special deal. ;D

I hope to update you guys soon with our inevitable momentous success!

Happy New year!

Blue = Karis

2013 Bro!

Christmas season has come and gone (finally) but with the whirlwind of the holidays all the opportunities to craft fell through my fingertips! But isn't that how it usually goes? You think you have so much time and then bam, it's over, and there was so much more you wanted to do.

I started a bunch of projects that are now half finished (including a pair of socks for my new baby nephew. Sock status now!) There could be a long list of all of those half finished and ghetto finished projects but lets get onto the good things, shall we?

TADAAA! Can I mention how cool this made me feel? Like a boss. Like a BOSS.

See, I've mentioned that I like pokemon but I'm not sure if the true love, appreciation and obsession was communicated. I am a kid from the '90's, you see.

Both Cleffa and Wooper were printed on 4T shirts. Isn't that cute? Your toddler can have a baby pokemon on their shirt and when they grow up we can make the next evolution in the sequence. :D

Yeah, so, this is most definitely my new craft kick so expect to see some more *thumbs up*
